CrossFit Open

This chapter, we explore our experiences with the CrossFit Open, touching on the reasons for participating and the value of signing up. We share stories from our first Opens, including jumping into the competition just months after starting CrossFit, and the adjustments we had to make during the pandemic, like improvising equipment at home. We reflect on the evolution of the Open from a five-week event to its current three-week format and emphasize its accessibility, with workouts designed for all skill levels from Foundation to RX. The conversation highlights the sense of community the Open fosters, the challenge it presents, and the fun that comes with completing the workouts.

Benefits of Participating in CrossFit Open

This chapter examines the challenges and rewards of participating in CrossFit while we explore the importance of community involvement and the adaptability of workouts with a level system that includes white, yellow, orange, blue, purple, and brown options, in addition to the standard foundations, scaled, and Rx. I share my encouragement for listeners who are hesitant to sign up for competitions, highlighting the value in tracking progress over time. By comparing my journey from the 78th to the 93rd percentile, we underscore the motivational aspect of seeing tangible improvements and discuss how the introduction of quarterfinals adds a new layer of goals and benchmarks for athletes.

This chapter we explore the significance of training for day-to-day life and how competition can serve as an expression of the hard work we put into fitness. We talk about the communal aspect of fitness challenges and how they can bring people together from different gym classes or times of day, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. We also discuss our personal preferences in workouts, revealing the movements we each favor and dislike, with a particular focus on dumbbell snatches and gymnastics. While touching on the anticipation for new gymnastic movements in upcoming competitions, we share our individual strengths, whether it's weightlifting, gymnastics, or endurance, and acknowledge that while we all have our own specialties, there's a common enjoyment in pushing our limits and testing our fitness.

Memorable CrossFit Open Workouts

This chapter finds us reminiscing about memorable CrossFit Open workouts, highlighting the unique experiences they brought into our fitness journeys. We kick things off by discussing the 2020 "choose your own adventure" workout, which involved ring muscle-ups, wall balls, and rowing. We touch on the strategy and recall how the workout's structure allowed for personalized approaches. The conversation shifts to 19.3 or 19.4, remembered for its introduction of strict handstand push-ups, and the personal achievement felt upon completing them. We also share the story of a competitive inspiration found during this workout. Lastly, we recall the grueling 2022 workout that scaled up to ten and back down to one with deadlifts and burpees, made memorable by the supportive screams of a fellow member. Through these recollections, we explore how these workouts left lasting impressions and helped define our CrossFit experiences.
